Use the lessons.

It has been a long time since I began the deep inner work to heal myself from toxic patterns. Many years in fact. And yet, I can still make the same damned mistakes over and over again.

Thankfully, my response to these choices has changed dramatically over the years. Now, instead of beating myself up or avoiding responsibility or numbing myself through unhealthy coping mechanisms (which were my habits of choice back in the day), I handle my mistakes with much more self-compassion and forgiveness.

I am a firm believer in Maya Angelou’s poignant observation that “I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better.”

Trying to fight or avoid the lessons in front of you only creates more suffering for yourself. Instead, choose to welcome what arises - pain, loss, grief, anger, loneliness, trauma, tragedy - as blessed teachers sent to elevate you and expand your capacity to Love. #bornebackceaselessly
