How to heal from abuse.

This week marks one year since my marriage became a national scandal. Most of the world has forgotten. But the tension, uncertainty, anxiety, and listlessness which have followed me every day since are a constant reminder that I cannot and will not forget my responsibility to keep the conversation going.

My journey has been one of humiliation and shame. But most importantly, mine is a story of HEALING. It is easy to get trapped in a cycle of hurt, anger, and blame when it comes to the abuse you have suffered. But staying there leads to more suffering.

To heal, we must practice self-compassion and self-forgiveness as well as mindful recognition of how the trauma is showing up in your body. Once you are able to feel the pain and come out the other side, you can then use your voice to empower and save others.
